Caring for Oak Dining Tables

Caring for Oak Dining Tables

When you first buy a classic oak dining table it looks absolutely fantastic. Follow a few simple care tips and you can make sure your dining table remains the pride of your dining room for years to come.

Cleaning Oak Dining Tables

Avoid using harsh cleaning products on any oak furniture products. Oak is an extremely durable wood, however overly aggressive cleaning solutions can damage the finish of your furniture. Instead, use furniture polish wipes, or a simple solution of warm water, a little soap and lemon.

Temperature & Humidity

Placing oak dining tables too close to radiators and hot water pipes can cause the oak to dry and crack, particularly if the wood has been finished with some kind of sealing agent.

If your table top is cracked you should be able to easily restore it using one of a host of products available from your local DIY store specifically designed for oak. Just remember to read the manufacturer’s guidelines before you start!

Also, remember that wood expands and contracts in accordance with temperatures, so try not to expose your oak dining table to extreme temperatures or excessive humidity.

Oak Care Products

Most oak furniture gets better with age, but you need to ensure your dining table grows old gracefully. There are plenty of good quality oak care products available on the high street including furniture touch up kits, wax and so on. We’d recommend using oak care products regularly to ensure your table keeps its finish.
